A few months ago I visited a banh mi sandwich shop in Eagle Rock, called Yum Me Baguette, and I loved it. Each sandwich is lovingly assembled with crunchy cucumbers, tangy pickled onions and carrots, spicy jalapeno peppers, zesty cilantro, on a warm, crusty, baguette with that signature Vietnamese mayonnaise (more flavorful and delicious than the American stuff) and the meat of your choice. Each ingredient by itself is so fresh and delicious, each bite punctuated with a satisfying crunch, such a delightful melody of textures and flavors, that I couldn't help but to come back for more. Just writing about it makes my mouth water (can you tell?).
Anyway, I started frequenting them about once a week for a grilled pork sandwich. I made friends with the owner, Julian, and offered to take some photos of her food sometime. She took me up on my offer, and let me have the sandwiches afterwards. Bonus!
This was my first time photographing food, but I hope I can do it again sometime. It was an interesting challenge to sculpt the food to make it look as good as it tastes. Here are a few samples of what I photographed.
So, if you're passing through Eagle Rock in LA - go check out Yum Me Baguette! They also have really good smoothies, and macaroons!
