This year, I brought in the new years with a great bunch of people drinking, dancing, giving speeches, and celebrating – but what was different about it, is they weren’t waiting for the ball to drop, they were waiting for the bride to walk down the aisle.
We photographed the first look, family, and wedding party at Watts Tower – which was a first for me. Unfortunately, due to the holiday, we could not get into the inner area where the sculptures and mosaics are. Instead, we photographed in the surrounding park area, putting the towers in the background.
The ceremony was held at the Brides family’s house, with the ceremony in the front yard and the reception in a canopied tent in the back, both lit with beautiful string lights. The yard had great landscaping, most notably the 15 foot hedges along the side – making a sold wall of green leaves, which made a great back drop, and gave the reception an intimate, private, feeling. The food also stood out from the norm for wedding food; street tacos and pupusa’s – hand made and cooked right in front of you – dough and all. It was like dinner and a show!
The night was concluded with a send off with sparklers, which created beautiful warm light, and looked fantastic against the green hedge backdrop. The contrast created by this type of lighting translated into stunning black and white images too.
So congratulations to Jennifer and Tony! Thanks for letting Carla and I photograph your beautiful wedding!
